With the Eye of Faith

Dear all yall of the States or wherever else,

We survived another week!!! We worked dang hard this week and I am completely exhausted. Weve been doing great as a companionship and we have so far survived the heat and the rain.

I was a little crushed this Sunday when only 22 people showed up at church. It didnt even rain! They just didnt come! I am completely stumped. What do we do? We keep working I guess! And keep visiting. And keep teaching the Godhead. I took a lot of comfort reading Alma 32. You gotta dig that seed, and cultivate it, and believe all things and hope all things and suffer all things and you still might pull an Alma and get kicked out of the city! Or you might get thrown into prison! Nobody said it was gonna be easy!

So... thats the update from Horqueta. This week we suffered no injuries, no dengue, no run ins with police, nothing exciting hahah.

OH! but we did have one lesson interrupted because the peoples tucahn was jumping up and down on the branches behind my head. That was new. Yes, their tucahn. Their pet tucahns that live at their house and eat bananas from their hands. #paraguay

In another lesson we couldnt get anything done because their parrot was participating in the lesson and every five seconds said "huuuuuh?" like it didnt understand the conversation.

Oh! Also I had a nightmare the other day that I got back from my mission and no one could understand me and I didn{t know why and then I realized that I could only speak in spanish and I was so embarrassed! Hooooping that doesnt happen in real life.

But anyways. That{s all folks!

Love and stuff,

It's just a flesh wound!!!

Dear everyone,

This has been the wildest few weeks hahah I can't even believe what happened to me. I feel like I should just send pictures and leave it at that hahah.

Horqueta doens't have internet, so sorry to everyone for last week. :( Bummy. Sorry about that.

This week I experienced the paraguayan hospital! There's so many things that can kill you in Paraguay its a miracle that people even live here hahahh. But doen't worry about me! I lived!

This week we had the most amazing experience with a lady named Denise. She let us right in and we talked and talked and the spirit was SO strong like the strongest I have felt since I was in the temple. And she accepted a baptismal date. She was like, I can feel goosebumps when we sing the hymns, and I know God will answer my prayers. I didn't know there was another prophet but it all makes sense! And it was so cool!!! She has one little boy and her husband and they are so prepared!!

Also this sunday I taught relief society, and sunday school, and gave a talk in sacrament. We go hardcore here in Horqueta.

But really!!! This week I learned that even if God asks you to walk through the darkness of the adversary, He will never leave you alone! Even though it's been crazy, God has given us all the tools that we need to keep moving forward and to have complete confidence that it is all part of His greater plan and part of our benefit. :)

I love all of you so much! Stayin' alive here in Paraguay!

***Bonus From the Cranney Mission Blog***
"We are so grateful for these two new sisters who are working here in Horqueta.  We love all of the missionaries so much but there are some who just know how to work and just do it.  They have new investigators, church attendance has climbed up again, and they are very obedient.  Hermana Scott is from California and Hermana Martinez is from Asuncion, Paraguay.  She speaks Spanish, Guarani, a little Portugues, and a little English. The work is progressing."

**Bonus From her Mom Letter**
"Sometimes you just gotta look stuff in the face and you ask, "laugh or cry?" And its almost always better to just laugh it off!!! What are we gonna do about it right? That's something that Hermana Martinez bless her soul always says, "Well, que vamos a hacer?" What'll we do about it? Smile and learn and keep going!!!

I don't know why the Lord sent me to this place or this mission or anything but I am learning a heck of a lot of things!!! More than anything that we just need to love the people and do what we can and little by little we have faith that we will see the fruits of our labors. Even if we don't baptize the whole city of Horqueta, if we can help them correctly understand the Godhead, that's something valuable!!"

More Si Puede Creerlo, No Hay Internet

There is no internet in Horqueta this week so just letting you all know that I'm good, I taught relief society again and we are working hard.

We're only allowed to send one email so:
RUTH: YOU ARE A BEAUTIFUL PERSON I LOVE YOUR PICTURES HOLY WOW
Ben: I GOT YOUR PACKAGE AND YOU ARE THE BEST HUMAN BEING EVER
Parents: I LOVE YOU MORE THAN LIFE thank you for supporting me and have a good week working and stuff!!!
Taylor: Keep on colleging. :)

uhhhh we had 44 people in the church this week and it was great! We still get lost everyday but what are you going to do.

I saw a monkey.

Still trying to learn guarani, pero its slow coming.

I love this church! My testimony is strengthened every day as we teach the gospel in the simplest way possible.

Kisses and hugs to all of you! Until next week!

Excuse me, where's the Mormon church?

Dear everyone, please read my email because I have a lot of news

On Tuesday we had transfers and it was all very mysterious. They told me I was leaving so I packed, and then at 5 am the next day we were in the church and the assistants to president showed up and they said, "Hermana Scott, get in the van." I am not even kidding.

I got in the van.

9 hours of travel later I'm in HORQUETA. Doing a PINK WASH. That means I'm almost the farthest out in the mission that you can go, being an hermana, and I'm starting from zero. Both me and my companion are new. They took out the old missionaries, closed the other area, and they gave the entire city to us!!! How cool right?

I have so much to say and no time to say it. Okay, long story short, we are working with the ... couple missionaries? Elder and Sister Cranney and they are from Washington and the first thing the Sister said to me is "Would you like some pasta salad? Or pumpkin bread?" .... it has been an amazing first week.

We only had 19 people in the church this sunday and the ward is basically disfunctional-- so we are like relief society president and first counselor, and really jack-of-all-trades missionaries. Its so coooool really I'm like dying I love it here so much! It was so funny we have no idea where anything is and so yesterday we were asking all the people in the streets, uhmmm where is the mormon church? And we're the missionaries of the city hahah que verguenzaaa

OH! And my companion is Hermana Martinez! Remember her? We left from the MTC together and she's paraguaya! Shes sooo cool! We get along great! Oh did I mention all the reunions are held in Guarani?! I LOVE THIS PLACE.

So uhhhmm I have a million mmore things to say but that's a little update!!!

LOVE you! Thanks for writing me all of you, I read every word! Enjoy your coldness and suffering haha I will be here getting a tan and eating pumpkin bread. Kisses!!

Please enjoy these fotos from last week!!!
