The Parable of the Eggs

One night as I said my nightly prayers, I added, "Oh, and I know this is a silly thing to ask for, but if you could help me with [something trivial] that would be awesome. But if not, no big deal. I mean, I can handle either way."

I crawled into bed and the Spirit taught me this lesson in the tenderest way. It was a conversation in my head, so I will do my best to stay true to that.

Spirit: Kaitlin, what if someone came to your house and asked you for an egg. It was for a recipe and they just needed an egg. Would you give it to them?

Me: Of course I would!

Spirit: What if you had paid for and bought the carton yourself?

Me: Of course I would!

Spirit: What if this was the very last egg you had? What if you needed it?

Me: Doesn't matter, I would make do.

Spirit: God has plenty of eggs.

And then in my mind's eye, I saw a fridge full of cartons of eggs. Then my view expanded and I saw a room full of shelves- Walmart style shelves full of eggs. Full! Carton on carton on carton full of eggs. My view expanded a little more and I saw rooms and rooms and rooms full of eggs, a mansion full of eggs, and sugar, and flour, and every baking ingredient you could imagine! Full! Infinite amount!

The Spirit taught me a precious truth that night. The Lord does not care how "big" or "small" our request is. The Lord has plenty. He has all truth, all knowledge, all the things of the earth. They all belong to Him. We are His children, and we are His everything. If we ask for something, He has plenty! He wants to give!!!

"But what about those times when you feel like the Lord will not give you what you want," you're asking. For this I have one answer. Maybe the Lord is reading a better recipe.
